PP Plastic Pen Barrel Extrusion Production Line
1. Overview
This PP pellet single-color & multi-color plastic pen barrel extrusion production line is a highly efficient and automated equipment specially developed for ballpoint pens, gel pens, watercolor pens, marker pens and other plastic pen barrels. Using polypropylene (PP) pellets as the main raw material and adopting mature extrusion molding technology, the line can flexibly produce single-color, two-color and multi-color co-extruded plastic pen barrels, with excellent appearance, high dimensional accuracy and stable production efficiency. It is widely used for large-scale and standardized production in stationery manufacturing enterprises.

The production line integrates a high-precision extruder, special molding die, 3D electric cooling water tank, and servo-driven haul-off & cutting machine. Equipped with an automatic temperature control system, automatic feeding system and intelligent control system, it realizes fully continuous and automated production. It effectively solves common problems in traditional pen barrel production, such as low precision, uneven color and inconsistent cutting length. The finished pen barrels feature smooth surface, uniform wall thickness and full color, fully meeting the quality standards of the stationery industry.
2. Main Raw Material: PP Pellets
The production line adopts food-grade or general-purpose PP polypropylene pellets, which is the ideal material for plastic pen barrels with the following advantages:
- Excellent processing performance: good melt flowability, wide processing temperature range (180–260°C), stable extrusion, not easy to cause material breakage, bubbles or scorching.
- Reliable product performance: moderate rigidity, good toughness, wear resistance, non-toxic and odorless, suitable for assembly, printing and surface treatment.
- Cost-effective: widely sourced and economical. Color masterbatch can be added for single-color products, and multi-color co-extrusion realizes one-step molding without secondary coloring.
- Environmentally friendly and recyclable: PP material is recyclable, in line with green production requirements.
3. Core Equipment Composition and Parameters
3.1 Single Screw Extruder (Main Machine)

The extruder is specially designed for PP pellet plasticization to ensure sufficient melting and uniform mixing.
- Screw: diameter 55mm / 65mm, L/D ratio 28:1 / 30:1, made of 38CrMoAlA alloy steel with nitriding and polishing treatment.
- Barrel: sectional heating with independent air cooling or water cooling, temperature control accuracy ±1°C.
- Driving system: variable frequency motor, power 7.5–15kW, stable operation and low noise.
- Feeding system: automatic vacuum loader with hopper dryer to remove moisture and avoid bubbles in finished products.
3.2 Special Molding Die
The die is the key component to ensure pen barrel shape, wall thickness and color effect.
- Single-color die: made of high-quality mold steel, smooth runner design, wall thickness adjustable from 0.8–1.5mm, dimensional error ≤0.05mm.
- Multi-color co-extrusion die: multi-layer composite runner structure, supporting two-color or three-color co-extrusion with clear color layers and no color mixing.
- Die adjustment: equipped with fine-tuning mechanism for wall thickness uniformity; mold replacement can be completed within 30–60 minutes.
3.3 3D Electric Water Tank
The 3D electric cooling water tank realizes precise cooling and shaping to avoid bending and deformation.
- 3D adjustment: electric adjustment in up-down, left-right and front-back directions, positioning accuracy ±0.1mm.
- Cooling system: pre-cooling, main cooling and shaping zones; circulating cooling water with controllable temperature 20–30°C.
- Material: 304 stainless steel, corrosion-resistant and easy to clean; length 3–5m customizable.

3.4 Servo Haul-off & Cutting Machine
Driven by high-precision servo motor to ensure extremely high cutting accuracy.
- Servo system: synchronous speed linkage with extruder, hauling speed 1–15m/min, stepless adjustable.
- Cutting accuracy: closed-loop control with photoelectric positioning, length error ≤±0.1mm.
- Cutting tool: carbide cutter, providing flat cut without burrs or deformation.
- Control: touch-screen operation, supporting length setting, production counting and automatic stop.

4. Automatic Control System
The whole line adopts PLC and touch-screen centralized control:
- Real-time temperature monitoring and automatic adjustment for extruder, die and water tank.
- Synchronous control of extrusion speed, hauling speed and cutting speed.
- Automatic alarm for faults such as material shortage, overload, over-temperature and die blockage.
- Storage of multiple sets of production parameters for quick product changeover.
5. Complete Production Process
1. Raw material preparation: PP pellets mixed with color masterbatch, dried and automatically fed into the extruder.
2. Plasticization and extrusion: PP material melted and plasticized in the extruder.
3. Molding extrusion: melt extruded through die to form continuous pen barrel parison.
4. Cooling and shaping: parison cooled and fixed in the 3D electric water tank.
5. Haul-off: cooled pen barrel hauled stably by the servo haul-off machine.
6. Precision cutting: pen barrels cut to fixed length accurately.
7. Collection and finishing: finished products collected for subsequent grinding, printing and assembly.

A2: Painted the machine with anti-corrosion oil, and then covered with plastic film, and then packed into wooden case or fixed onto wooden pallet as per clients' requirements, or shall be loaded into container with film packing. After fixed all machines, we will use drying agent to keep container inside dry.
